The Work Culture

The Work Culture is a photography tribute and investigation around the value of tradition in handmade's jobs.

I think my interest in this subject developed from my family’s stories and memories of Florence,

my hometown.

It used to be full of artisans with great knowledge and tasks that just experts could carry on.

Tourists came from all over the world to see this, the beauty of a city living in the past, holding proudly a certain 'Work Culture' which produced high quality and prestigious goods.

Today, unfortunately, artisan’s activities are forced to close down by the high rents and are replaced by mass production goods, which are cheaper and quicker to built. I believe, as a consequence, that the city lost some of its identity. But, I guess, it is part of the so called “progress”.

‘How can we measure Progress if we don’t know what it costs and who has paid for it?” Arundhati Roy.

With this pictures I would like to observe and perhaps make the audience question for themselves around this subject.

This project has been shoot with digital and film.
